(FOA)-Limited Submission – American Association for the Advancement of Science – CASE Workshop: Catalyzing Advocacy for Science and Engineering; January 28, 2019

 

Purpose: The American for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Office of Government Relations is excited to announce that the 6^th annual CASE Workshop: Catalyzing Advocacy for Science and Engineering (CASE) will take place March 24-27, 2019 in Washington, D.C. The CASE workshop offers an opportunity for graduate students and upper-class undergraduate students in science, mathematics, and engineering disciplines come to Washington, DC, to learn about science policy and advocacy. Students who are selected by their institution to participate in the workshop will spend several days learning about the structure and organization of Congress, the federal budget and appropriations process, and tools for effective science communication and civic engagement. Sponsoring institutions will also have the opportunity to schedule Congressional visits on Capitol Hill for their students for Wednesday, March 27.

 

Note: Eligible students must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate (upper class) or graduate degree program in one of the following fields:

• Biological, physical, or earth science
• Computational sciences and mathematics
• Engineering disciplines
• Medical and health sciences
• Social and behavioral sciences

 

Funding Amount/ Project Period: UK Research will support registration,travel, and lodging costs for students who are selected for 3 ½ days in Washington, DC.

Internal Competition: To participate in the university’s selection process,please upload the following,assembled into a single PDF file, to the Office of the Vice President for Research via this portal with a copy to your Associate Dean for Research by January 22, 2019:

• Name and department of the student;
• Title of program and/or funding opportunity announcement number;
• Resume, including indication of graduate or undergraduate status (1 page maximum)
• Brief statement of interest (1/2 page maximum)

 

A committee will be convened to review the material and make a recommendation.
