FOA-Lewis
and Clark Fund for Exploration and Field Research Grants; November 16,
2020
Agency
American
Philosophical Society
Description
Founded
in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin for the purpose of “promoting useful knowledge,”
the American Philosophical Society is the oldest learned society in the United
States. Today the society sustains this mission by honoring and engaging
leading scholars, scientists, and professionals; supporting research and
discovery; and serving scholars through a research library of manuscripts and
other collections internationally recognized for their enduring historic
value.
To
that end, the society welcomes applications for its Lewis and Clark Fund for
Exploration and Field Research grants program. Through the program, grants of
up to $5,000 will be awarded in support of travel and other expenses (including
field equipment) for exploratory field studies that provide the imaginative
stimulus that accompanies direct observation. Proposals that are archival in
nature or museum based are not normally considered.
Applications
are invited from disciplines with a large dependence on field studies,
including archaeology, anthropology, biology, ecology, geography, geology,
linguistics, paleontology, and population genetics, but grants will not be
restricted to these fields.
