ARC ISSUES REQUEST FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS ON APPALACHIAN AGRICULTURE

 

This week, ARC issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) regarding how agricultural activity in the region may have changed over the years. Using both quantitative and qualitative analysis, the research will focus on direct marketing, local food production and other agricultural production data pulled from the Census of Agriculture among other sources. The overarching intent of the research is to:

  • Provide a quantitative overview of agricultural and local food activity and trends throughout Appalachia over recent years
  • Identify best practices and promising models from across Appalachia and the nation that support the development of local food systems and increase farm revenues
  • Identify emerging opportunities in agriculture throughout the Region, such as crops and products as well as strategic and technological innovations.
