This
week, ARC issued a Request
for Proposals (RFP) regarding how agricultural
activity in the region may have changed over the years. Using
both quantitative and qualitative analysis, the research will
focus on direct marketing, local food production and other
agricultural production data pulled from the Census of Agriculture
among other sources. The overarching intent of the research is
to:
- Provide
a quantitative overview of agricultural and local food
activity and trends throughout Appalachia over recent
years
- Identify
best practices and promising models from across Appalachia
and the nation that support the development of local food
systems and increase farm revenues
- Identify
emerging opportunities in agriculture throughout the
Region, such as crops and products as well as strategic
and technological innovations.
