WORKSHOP-Limited Submission – American Association for the Advancement of Science and Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities – CASE Workshop: Catalyzing Advocacy for Science and Engineering; January 19, 2018

 

Purpose: Under the leadership of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities (APLU) and other entities have designed an exciting opportunity for graduate students and upper-class undergraduate students in science, mathematics, and engineering disciplines to learn about science policy and advocacy. The CASE Workshop program is open to organizations that would like to provide an opportunity for their students to come to Washington, DC to learn about science policy. Students who are selected by their institution to participate will spend a few days in Washington learning about the structure and organization of Congress, the federal budget and appropriations process, and tools for effective science communication. The program runs from March 18-21, 2018 and includes the option to form teams and conduct meetings with their elected Members of Congress and congressional staff.

 

Note: Eligible students must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate (upper class) or graduate degree program in one of the following fields:

·         Biological, physical, or earth science

·         Computational sciences and mathematics

·         Engineering disciplines

·         Medical and health sciences

·         Social and behavioral sciences

 

Funding Amount/ Project Period: travel costs for students who are AAAS members for 3 ˝ days in Washington, DC

Internal Competition: To participate in the university’s selection process,please upload the following,assembled into a single PDF file, to the Office of the Vice President for Research via this portal with a copy to your Associate Dean for Research by January 9, 2018:

 

A committee will be convened to review the material and make a recommendation.
