Dating Matters
o
Component
I applicants must be implementing an individual/relationship level Dating
Matters program, such as Safe Dates, Dating Matters, or Families for Safe
Dates. The applicant may use a portion of funding to enhance the existing
Dating Matters program and the larger portion of funding to implement 2-3

implementation of the existing Dating Matters strategy.

Component
II – Implementation of community and societal level
strategies
o
Component
II applicants are expected to implement 2-3 strategies that prevent multiple
forms of violence impacting children and youth, at the community and societal
levels of the social ecological model. The implementation of strategies at the
outer levels of the SEM funded by this proposal should complement the

strategies.
Community-level
strategies are those strategies that target the characteristics of settings
(e.g., schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods) that increase the risk for or
protect people from violence particularly the social, economic, and
environmental characteristics of settings.
Societal-level
strategies are those strategies that look at the broad societal factors that
help create a climate in which violence is encouraged or inhibited. These
factors include social and cultural norms that support violence as an
acceptable way to resolve conflicts. Other large societal factors include the
health, economic, educational and social policies that help to maintain
economic or social inequalities between groups in
society.
Eligibility: Applicants must
submit the following: Letter of support (LOS) or Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) from the applicants Local Health Department that manages Violence
