The
UK Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences (UK-CARES), the
Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence, and
the Undergraduate Research Experience in Environmental Health Sciences (SURES)
Program present the COMPASS Science Communications Training. COMPASS is a
pioneer in the practice of science communication, and their coaches help scientists build the knowledge, skills, and
networks they need to effectively engage in public discourse about the
environment.
This
half-day training led by Communications Coach, Heather Mannix, will introduce the Message Box Workbook to help
participants (students, faculty, trainees, and staff) share what they do, what
they know—and most importantly, why it matters—in clear, lively terms. Grounded
in the latest research on science communication, this training is designed to
help participants find the relevance of their science for the audiences they
most want to reach—journalists, policymakers, the public, and even other
scientists.
A
boxed lunch will be provided by the Chellgren Center
for Undergraduate Excellence.
