ANNOUNCEMENT-University
of Kentucky Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences
(UK-CARES)
– COMPASS Science Communication Workshop; Friday, February 12,
2021
The
University of Kentucky’s Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental
Sciences (UK-CARES) is excited to offer our annual COMPASS Science Communication
Workshop from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm EST on February 16, February 17 OR
February 18, 2021. This free, highly interactive, virtual 4-hour workshop
will help you share what you do, what you know - and most importantly, why it
matters - in clear, lively terms. Grounded in the latest research on
communication, this training will teach you how to build a meaningful
connection with your audience and explore what makes people sit up and pay
attention.
The
four hour-long, interactive virtual workshop will introduce tools and
strategies to help you distill your knowledge and communicate with diverse
audiences. You will learn to use the Message Box, COMPASS’ fundamental
tool for breaking down complex topics into digestible messages.
This
workshop will involve hands-on practice, feedback, interactive exercises, and
lots of breaks, so please join using a webcam and be prepared to actively
participate. See the attached flier about the
workshop.
Please
note that the content for all three workshop sessions is the same, so you only
need to register for one. Please choose your preferred date. If
you are a citizen scientist or community member, we suggest that you sign up
for the workshop on Thursday, February 18. However, you are welcome
to sign up for any of the three dates.
