of Minority Scientists in the Area of Childhood Obesity Prevention: A
Mentoring Initiative
Texas Tech University announced a call
for applications for a one-day pre-conference grant writing and
mentoring workshop in San Diego, Calif., during the Society for
Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) Annual Conference, July 30-August
2, followed by a one-year collaboration with an assigned mentor.
Deadline
for Applications: July 15, 2016
The purpose of this mentoring and training program is capacity building
among investigators from minority serving institutions in the fields of
childhood obesity prevention. The initiative objectives are:
- to mentor and train early
career scientists and investigators from minority serving
institutions to develop their research agenda in the areas of
childhood obesity prevention;
- to promote high-quality
science and practice in childhood obesity prevention among
minority groups by enhancing research methodology and grant
writing skills; and
- to increase collaboration
between junior scholars and scholars with grant writing experience
and success in applied and translational research in childhood
obesity prevention.
The workshop will also provide participants with the
chance to network with national and international conference attendees
and, more importantly, the mentoring will continue throughout the
following year.
