COVID-19 Berkeley Conversations
Creating Informed Responses:
Berkeley’s Computing and Data Science in Action
April 7, 2020, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pacific/1 to
2:30 p.m. Eastern
Over the
next 8 to 12 weeks and in response to the research ramp-up related
to COVID-19, the University of California, Berkeley will host the Berkeley Conversations
webinar series to connect its experts with the
public they serve, and with each other. As a UIDP member, the
university invites you to join them for these live events.
The
inaugural webinar will be held Tuesday, April 7, "Creating
Informed Responses: Berkeley’s Computing and Data Science In Action." Nobel laureate Saul
Perlmutter, director of the Berkeley Institute for Data Science
(BIDS), and Michael Lu, dean of the Berkeley School of Public
Health, will host and moderate a roundtable discussion with
Berkeley researchers who are mobilizing computing and data science
for COVID-19 response and recovery, from helping local public
health officials track the pandemic to predicting and addressing
its impacts on employment and elections. Registration is free.
UIDP members are not only invited to attend, but
also to help shape the conversation. If your organization is actively
involved with applying computing and data science to your COVID-19
research endeavors, please contact David Mongeau, executive director of
BIDS, to explore speaking opportunities for your researchers
(including students) in the series. Different formats are possible:
panel, roundtable, 10-15 minute
presentations, and 3-5 minute lightning talks.
UIDP is
grateful for the opportunity to support the research community as a
communication hub for relevant, timely exchange. We believe our
members and friends possess the expertise and drive to improve life
for all of us.
