The Duke Energy Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Duke Energy, which provides electricity to 7.7 million retail customers in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina.

Through the program, grants will be awarded in support of efforts to help Duke Energy customers and communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and further its social justice and racial equity work.

Programs eligible for funding include those that address the summer reading loss (“summer slide”) experienced by rising kindergartners through rising third-graders, with a focus on addressing new gaps/barriers created by COVID; programs or teacher professional development for fourth through twelfth-grade students and teachers focused on energy, engineering, or environmental education, with a preference for out-of-school-day programming and that also create equal learning environments for students of color; and programs serving underrepresented, low-income, or diverse audiences, including people of color, women and minorities.

To be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or be a government entity, and serve communities also served by Duke Energy.
