Description:
The
Duke Energy Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Duke Energy, which provides
electricity to 7.7 million retail customers in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky,
North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina.
The
foundation currently is inviting applications for its Powerful Communities:
K-12 Education grants program. Through the program, grants will be awarded in
support of efforts to help Duke Energy customers and communities recover from
the COVID-19 pandemic and further its social justice and racial equity
work.
Programs
eligible for funding include those that address the summer reading loss
(“summer slide”) experienced by rising kindergartners through rising
third-graders, with a focus on addressing new gaps/barriers created by COVID;
programs or teacher professional development for fourth through twelfth-grade
students and teachers focused on energy, engineering, or environmental
education, with a preference for out-of-school-day programming and that also
create equal learning environments for students of color; and programs serving
underrepresented, low-income, or diverse audiences, including people of color,
women and minorities.
To
be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or be a government
entity, and serve communities also served by Duke Energy.
