FOA-University
of Kentucky’s Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences
(UK-CARES); FRIDAY June 26, 2020
The
University of Kentucky’s Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental
Sciences (UK-CARES) is excited to offer its annual COMPASS
science communication workshop from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on July 8 or July
9, 2020. This free, highly interactive, virtual workshop is designed for all who
need to communicate science: students, trainees, staff, and faculty. The
workshop will help you share what you do, what you know—and most importantly,
why it matters—in clear, lively terms. Grounded in the latest research on
communication, this training will explore what makes people sit up and pay
attention and how to build a meaningful connection with your audience.
The
four hour-long, interactive virtual workshop will introduce tools and
strategies to help you distill your knowledge and communicate with diverse
audiences. You will learn to use the Message Box, COMPASS’ fundamental tool for
breaking down complex topics into digestible messages.
This
workshop will involve hands-on practice, feedback, interactive exercises, and
lots of breaks, so please join using a webcam and be prepared to actively
participate. See the attached flier about the workshop.
Please
note that the content for both workshop sessions is the same, so you only need
to register for one and just choose your preferred date.
