Funding-Limited Submission – USDA –
Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences Education and Literacy
Initiative (USDA-NIFA-AFRI-006354); June 28, 2017
Purpose: The
AFRI Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Human Sciences Education and
Literacy Initiative (ELI) focuses on the professional development of secondary
school teachers and educational professionals as well as the training of
undergraduate students, and predoctoral and
postdoctoral fellows. The goal of the AFRI ELI Program is to develop the next
generation of research, education, and extension professionals in the food and
agricultural sciences.
Funding
Amounts:
There are four program areas, only two of which are limited:
1) Professional Development for
Secondary School Teachers and Educational Professionals (PD-STEP) - up to
$150,000 total per project for up to 3 years
2)
Research and Extension Experiences for
Undergraduates (REEU) - up to $300,000 total per project for up to 4 years
3)
Predoctoral Fellowships - $95,000 total per project for 2 years
4)
Postdoctoral Fellowships - $165,000
total per project for 2 years

Institutional
Limit: 3 proposals each for the PD-STEP and REEU
program areas; there is no limit for the predoctoral
and postdoctoral fellowships.
Internal
Competition: To
participate in the university’s selection process for program areas 1 and 2
only, please submit the following, assembled into a single PDF file, to the
Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu with a copy to your Associate
Dean for Research by May 16, 2017:
