Limited Submission – United States Agency for International Development (USAID) – Accelerating Inclusion and Mitigating Emissions (AIME); June 7, 2013

The overall objective of the Accelerating Inclusion and Mitigating Emissions (AIME) program is to increase participation of marginalized, forest-based communities in “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation” (REDD+) deals in order to mitigate global climate change emissions.  AIME’s objective will be achieved by: (1) creating tools and approaches that help local communities engage with the private sector more confidently and productively on resource management in general and carbon credits in particular; (2) improving the capacity of subnational governments to play a critical role in community-based REDD+ programs, with a focus on developing legal, regulatory, and administrative frameworks to support fair inclusion of indigenous and Afro-descendent communities in REDD+ projects; and (3) bringing community, local and regional government, and private sector representatives together to develop new approaches to negotiate REDD+ contracts.

USAID is contemplating awarding a single Cooperative Agreement totaling approximately $2.6 million per year for the five-year period, for a total amount not to exceed $13 million, subject to the availability of funds.

Organizations may submit only one (1) application for the Cooperative Agreement.

Because USAID only allows an organization to submit one application, the University of Kentucky has established an internal selection process.  Individuals interested in submitting to this program are to submit the following materials electronically to the Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu and a copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Friday, June 7, 2013:

·         Names and departments of UK Project Director and key personnel

·         An overview, including activities, goals, and objectives, of the proposed program.

A committee will be appointed to review the information and make a recommendation.  The USAID deadline is June 27, 2013.  Questions about the submission process may be sent to Ms. Annette Evans in the Office of the Vice President for Research (alevan4@email.uky.edu or 257-1663).
