Description
The National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service (FWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S.D.A. Forest
Service (FS), and Trout Unlimited (TU), annually requests proposals from
nonprofit organizations, universities, Native American tribes, and local,
state, and federal agencies interested in restoring, protecting, and enhancing
native populations of sensitive or listed aquatic species, especially on lands
on or adjacent to federal agency lands. The end result is on-the-ground
restoration, in-stream improvements, and growing partnerships for the benefit
of aquatic systems and their native species in the nation's watersheds. Funding
for the Bring Back the Natives (BBN) program is administered through NFWF from
federal agencies cooperating to support this program. This funding suggests a
$2 non-federal match for each federal dollar requested by applicants. Since
1991, 380 projects have been awarded through BBN. A total of $18.4 million in
Foundation funds has leveraged an additional $49.5 million in non-federal
matching contributions. Projects funded through BBN have restored habitat for a
number of listed species; protected and enhanced habitat for small, stable
populations of native aquatic organisms; and contributed to keeping several
species from being listed. The BBN Request for Proposals is typically released
in December, with pre-proposals due in January and full proposals due in March.
Deadline:
