Funding-Limited Submission – U.S. Department of State – Egypt: Promoting Accuracy and Transparency in Mass Media (DRLA-DRLAQM-13-083); March 14, 2014

DRL seeks proposals to promote accuracy, transparency, and credibility in news, social, and other mass media to combat the spread of inaccurate and often dangerous misinformation. Activities may include, but are not limited to:

• Building the capacity of Egyptian media and/or civil society organizations to monitor media reporting to promote accuracy and credibility;
• Coordinating and improving the documentation and verification efforts of major media outlets, including social media platforms;
• Training for journalists and media outlets to avoid inflammatory or incendiary language in their reporting;
• Advocating for legal and regulatory reforms to bolster media independence, including improving processes for responding to violations.

Partnership with local organizations is strongly encouraged.

Cost Sharing:  Cost sharing is strongly encouraged, and cost sharing contributions should be outlined in the proposal budget and budget narrative.

Limited Submission:  An organization may submit no more than one proposal.

Internal Notification:  Due to the organizational limits for this RFP, interested applicants must notify the Proposal Development Office (PDO@uky.edu or 257-2861) of intent to apply by Friday, March 14, 2014.

If cost sharing will be offered, include an estimated budget with match and potential sources of funding for that match. Note:  Because of ongoing commitments, the Office of the Vice President for Research is unable to provide matching funds.
