Description
The Fisheries
Integration of Society and Habitats (FISH) activity will increase social,
ecological, and economic resilience to climate change and improve biodiversity
conservation within freshwater ecosystems through sustainable fisheries
co-management. FISH will focus on a key cross section of Malawian fisheries
located in the Upper Shire Water Basin, the Southern shore of Lake Malawi, and
the smaller lakes Chilwa, Malombe, and Chiuta. Interventions
will achieve the following outputs: Output 1. Utilization of science, analysis,
and information for decision making increased Output 2. Enabling environment for
conservation and management of freshwater ecosystems enhanced Output 3. Priority
threats to freshwater ecosystem biodiversity reduced Output 4. Adoption of
climate change adaptation measures that support resilience of communities and
freshwater ecosystems increased Taken together, increased knowledge (Output 1)
will inform systems with enhanced capacity (Output 2) and catalyze actions for
biodiversity conservation (Output 3) and climate change adaptation (Output 4)
which will lead to increased social, ecological, and economic resilience of both
freshwater ecosystems and people who depend on them.
