Funding-Limited Submission – U.S. Department of Homeland Security Fire Prevention and Safety Grants; March 28, 2012

The Department of Homeland Security has funds for Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grants in two categories:

1)     Fire Prevention and Safety Activity – to reach high-risk target groups and mitigate incidences of deaths and injuries by fire and related hazards; and

2)     Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activity – to improve firefighter safety

The FY 2011 Fire Prevention and Safety Grants Guidance Materials are currently available at http://www.fema.gov/firegrants/fpsgrants/index.shtm.  Electronic application forms and an online tutorial will be available beginning April 2, 2012 at http://www.fema.gov/firegrants/.  The tutorial provides guidance regarding the preparation of a competitive application, including the specific requirements and review of lessons learned from previous years.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the tutorial prior to preparing an application.  The maximum award under each activity is $1 million. Project periods are one year for Fire Prevention and Safety Activity and up to three years for Research and Development Activity.

Applicants may submit only one FP&S grant application per FP&S application period.  However, an applicant may request financial assistance for as many as three projects within the one application.  Each project must be presented separately as a free-standing proposal.  Each project will be scored independently using the established evaluation criteria.

The University of Kentucky has an internal selection process for this limited submission program. To submit a Fire and Safety Grant proposal, send the following information to the Office of the Vice President for Research at vpr@email.uky.edu and a copy to your Associate Dean for Research by Wednesday, March 28, 2012:
