Description
The Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation is accepting applications for Round 11 of
its Grand Challenges Explorations initiative, an
accelerated grant program that encourages bold approaches to improving the
lives of the world's poorest people. Anyone — students,
scientists, entrepreneurs — with a transformative idea is invited to
apply.
Initial
grants of $100,000 are awarded twice a year. Successful projects have the
opportunity to receive a follow-on grant of up to $1 million. Topics for Grand
Challenges Explorations Round 11 are 1) developing the next generation of
condom; 2) increasing interoperability of social good data (in partnership with
Liquidnet for Good); 3) One Health — bringing
together human and animal health for new solutions; 4) labor-saving strategies
and innovations for women smallholder farmers; and 5) new approaches for detecting,
treating, and controlling selected neglected tropical diseases.
The program
welcomes proposals from a broad spectrum of contributors and encourages
cross-disciplinary approaches. The Gates Foundation and an independent group of
reviewers will select the most innovative proposals, and grants will be awarded
within approximately four months of the proposal submission deadline.
