Description
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is accepting
applications for Round 12 of its Grand Challenges Explorations
initiative, an accelerated grant program that encourages bold approaches aimed
at improving the lives of the world's poorest people. Anyone — students, scientists, entrepreneurs — with a transformative idea is
invited to apply.
Initial grants of $100,000 are awarded twice a year. Successful projects are
eligible to receive a follow-on grant of up to $1 million. Topics for Grand
Challenges Explorations Round 12 are 1) inciting healthy behaviors; 2) new
enabling tools and models supporting development of interventions for enteric
dysfunction; 3) innovations in feedback and accountability systems for
agricultural development; 4) One Health — bringing together human and animal
health for new solutions; and 5) developing the next-generation condom.
Since its launch in 2008, the program has funded more than eight hundred and
fifty grants in fifty countries. The program welcomes proposals from a broad
spectrum of contributors and encourages cross-disciplinary approaches. The
Gates Foundation and an independent group of reviewers will select the most
innovative proposals, and grants will be awarded within approximately four
months of the proposal submission deadline.
