Description
The Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation is accepting applications for
Round 13 of its Grand Challenges Explorations
initiative, an accelerated grant program that encourages bold approaches aimed
at improving the lives of the world’s poorest people. Anyone — students, scientists, entrepreneurs — with a transformative
idea is invited to apply.
Initial
grants of $100,000 are awarded twice a year, and successful projects have the
opportunity to receive a follow-on grant of up to $1 million. The five topics
for Grand Challenges Explorations Round 13 are measuring fetal and infant brain
mortality, integrating community-based interventions, inciting health
behaviors, diarrhea and enteric dysfunctions, and innovations for building
agricultural development programs.
Since its
launch in 2008, the program has funded more than nine hundred grants in over
fifty countries. The program welcomes proposals from a broad spectrum of
contributors and encourages cross-disciplinary approaches. The Gates Foundation
and an independent group of reviewers will select the most innovative
proposals, and grants will be awarded within approximately four months of the
proposal submission deadline.
