Submission: HRSA - Leadership Education in Adolescent Health HRSA-12-015; March 1, 2012
Purpose: The Leadership
Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Training Program provides
interdisciplinary leadership training for at least five (5) core professional
disciplines in the areas of adolescent medicine, psychology, nursing, nutrition
and social work at the graduate and postgraduate levels to prepare trainees for
leadership roles in clinical services, research, training, and organization of
health services for adolescents, including those with special health care
needs. The training is designed to integrate biological, developmental, mental
health, social, economic, educational, and environmental issues within a public
health framework. LEAH projects develop, enhance, and improve
adolescent-centered/family-involved, culturally competent, community-based care
for adolescents by providing interdisciplinary leadership training of health
professionals and by working with state and local health, education, youth
development, and human service agencies and providers – public, private, and
voluntary – with a maternal and child health focus. These training projects
influence the health and health care issues of adolescents nationally.
