Funding-Limited Submission – HRSA - Telehealth Network Grant Program (HRSA 12-092); March 26, 2012

Description This announcement solicits applications for the Telehealth Network Grant Program (TNGP).  The primary objective of the TNGP is to demonstrate how telehealth programs and networks can improve access to quality health care services in rural and underserved communities.

Grants made under this authority will demonstrate how telehealth networks improve healthcare services for medically underserved populations in urban, rural, and frontier communities.  TNGP networks are used to: (a) expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of health care services; (b) improve and expand the training of health care providers; and/or (c) expand and improve the quality of health information available to health care providers, and patients and their families, for decisionmaking.  However, as noted below, because of legislative restrictions, grants will be limited to programs that serve rural communities, although grantees may be located in urban or rural areas.

Applicants may apply for the TNGP in one of two areas: 1) Telehealth Networks (TNGP-TH) – grants for the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health, and health administration. 2) Telehomecare Networks (TNGP-THC) – grants to evaluate the cost and effectiveness of remote vital sign monitoring of individual patients and the delivery of healthcare services to individuals in their place of residence by a healthcare provider using telecommunications technologies to exchange healthcare information over a distance. A “place of residence” is broadly defined to include assisted living facilities and other congregate arrangements where people live.

Institutional Limit: An organization may only be included in one application as an applicant, participating network member, or an affiliated organization for one type of grant (TNGP-TH or TNGP-THC). Due to limited availability of funding under this grant competition, only one grant award (TNGP-TH or TNGP-THC) will be made to an “applicant”.

Internal Competition: Because HRSA limits the number of proposals, the University of Kentucky has established an internal selection process.  Prospective applicants interested in responding to this program should send a pre-proposal with the following information to the Office of the Vice President for Research at vpr@email.uky.edu and a copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Monday, March 26, 2012:

  1. Indicate which program you are applying for (TNGP-TH or TNGP-THC)
  2. Names and departments of the Project Director and project personnel
  3. Brief abstract of project (1-2 p. max) (If you have received similar funding for such a program in the past, please include a statement to this effect and the dates of the project period)

A committee will be appointed to review the information and make a recommendation. Questions about the submission process may be sent to Ms. Annette Evans in the Office of the Vice President for Research (alevan4@email.uky.edu or 257-1663.)
