Submission – American Diabetes Association -- 2013 Pathway to Stop Diabetes
Research Initiative; June 26, 2013
The
Pathway to Stop Diabetes Research Program will consider applications directed
toward all topics relevant to prevention, treatment and cure of all types of
diabetes (type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes), diabetes-related disease states
(obesity, pre-diabetes, and other insulin resistant states) and the
complications of the disease. The program intends to attract a broad range of
expertise to the field of diabetes from various fields of science and
technology, including medicine, biology, chemistry, computing, physics,
mathematics and engineering.
Diabetes
Research Career Initiator (INI) This two-phased award is designed to support
the transition from mentored training to independent research faculty
· Eligible applicants must currently be in research
training positions (post-doctoral fellow, research fellowship) and have no more
than seven years of research training following terminal doctoral degree.
· Awards provide two distinct phases of research
support. Phase 1 provides up to two years of support for mentored training at a
maximum of $100,000 per year (including 10% indirect costs). Phase 2 provides
up to five years of support for independent research at a maximum of $325,000
per year (including 30% indirect costs).
Diabetes
Research Accelerator (ACC)
The
ADA requires that all applicants dedicate 75% of their time to research (i.e.
75% effort).
Limited
Submission:
Each institution is allowed a maximum of one nomination. The nomination can be
in either of the two available Pathway award types:
· Diabetes Research Career Initiator
· Diabetes Research Accelerator
Internal
Competition: Because
there is a limit of one nomination per institution, the University of Kentucky
has established an internal selection process. Individuals interested
in submitting to this program are to submit the following materials (2 pages
max) electronically to the Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu
and a copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Wednesday, June 26, 2013:
The
Vice President for Research will appoint a committee to review this material
and make recommendations. The external deadline is Aug. 16, 2013
