Funding-Assets
and Market Access Collaborative Research Support Program; November 21, 2011
Agency
Name
USAID
Description
With the 2000 amendment of Title XII,
Congress has directed that support be provided to mobilize the capacities of
U.S. universities and public and private partners of universities for 1) global
research on problems affecting food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; and
2) improved human capacity and institutional resource development for the
global application of agriculture and related environmental sciences. These
activities are intended to benefit both developing countries and the United
States. CRSP activities are long-term in nature and emphasize equally: (1) the
development of capacity of the developing country participants to ultimately
meet their own knowledge requirements; (2) the creation of new technologies and
solutions to existing constraints under the specific topic of the CRSP; and (3)
economic, health and social impacts. Research activities are conducted in
collaboration with host-country researchers and institutions, and are
structured so as to have a returning benefit to the U.S. institutions or U.S.
agriculture more broadly. There are currently nine CRSPs addressing different
sub-sectors of agriculture. One of these is the Assets and Market Access (AMA)
CRSP. The AMA CRSP agreement expired September 30, 2011. The AMA CRSP proposed
in this RFA will be a continuation, with some modification, to the previous AMA
CRSP program.
