Funding-Limited
Submission – George M. O’Brien Kidney Research Core Centers (P30); August 3, 2011
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) invites applications for
George M. O’Brien Kidney Research Core Centers to support both basic and
clinical research on kidney disease. Centers may be located in a single
institution or in multiple institutions with complementary research
bases. A Kidney Research Core Center must be an identifiable unit within
a single institution such as a university medical center, or within a
consortium of cooperating institutions. The Kidney Research Core Center
applications must be associated with an existing program of excellence in
biomedical research in kidney disease. Program excellence is measured
through a consistent and outstanding record of productivity and peer-reviewed
research funding in kidney disease and related research areas.
The NIDDK intends to commit approximately $3.6M for three
awards in FY 2012. Application budgets are limited to $750,000in direct
costs per year; the project period may not exceed five years. Information
about the current George M. O'Brien Kidney Research Core Centers may be found
at the following URL:

Details about this funding opportunity
(RFA-DK-11-008), including specific Research Core Center Guidelines, are
available at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-DK-11-008.html.
Because the NIDDK limits an institution to only one application, the University of Kentucky has established an internal
selection process. Individuals interested in submitting to this program
are to send the following information electronically to the Vice President
for Research at vpr@email.uky.edu and
a copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Wednesday, August 3, 2011:

theme(s) or focus area(s) and broad, long-range objectives and goals of the
Center; provide an overview of the ongoing NIDDK-funded research in kidney
disease at UK and any participating institutions and the impact of the proposed
Center on this research
A committee will be appointed to review the
information and make recommendations as to the University’s submission.
Questions about the submission process may be sent to Ms. Annette Evans in the
Office of the Vice President for research (alevan4@email.uky.edu or 257-1663).
