Funding-NIFA – Bi-national
Agricultural Research and Development Fund (BARD); July 3, 2014
Agency
U.S. Department of Agriculture - National
Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA)
Description
BARD
is pleased to announce that BARD’s cooperative efforts with NIFA have been
expanded to an additional Request For Applications
(RFA) – National Integrated Water Quality Program (NIWQP). This is in addition
to the previously announced cooperation with NIFA and their Water For Agriculture RFA.
In
2013, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and
Agriculture (NIFA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BARD, The
US-Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund. Thus US
scientists, applying for a grant in the National Integrated Water Quality
Program RFA, have an opportunity to add to their application Israeli scientists
as collaborators whose funding will be provided by BARD.
The
principal constraint to Israeli agriculture is water and has devoted much of
its agricultural research and development funds to creating sustainable
solutions for agriculture under the constraint of limited water resources.
As a result there are many Israeli scientists with expertise in areas such as
irrigation technology, water reuse, water quality, environmental impact of
water resources, government water policy, plant responses to drought etc.
This
expertise can be used to help enhance one or more of the proposal’s objectives without
compromising the proposed budget for any of the US collaborators.
·
Program area priority:
1)
The development of drought triggers and appropriate science based management
decisions, practices and/or responses.
2)
To aid decision making so as to optimize the allocation of water use between
productive and environmental uses.
·
Deadline: July 3, 2014
The
BARD staff is available to help facilitate US scientists to find appropriate
Israeli partners for their collaborative efforts.
Please
feel free to share this communication with anyone who may find this relevant to
their research efforts.
Sincerely,
Edo
Chalutz
