Funding-Limited Submission - NIOSH Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Centers; July 22, 2010

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention invites grant applications for Education and Research Centers (ERC) that are focused on occupational safety and health training and research training.  ERCs are academic institutions that provide interdisciplinary graduate training and continuing education in the core occupational safety and health areas of 1) occupational medicine residency (OMR), 2) occupational health nursing (OHN), 3) industrial hygiene (IH), and 4) occupational safety (OS), and other fields closely related to occupational safety and health.

An ERC may provide training in as many core or allied program areas as resources allow; however, it must be demonstrated that students will be exposed to the principles and issues in all four core disciplines.  See the complete program announcement for details on the specific requirements: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-10-217.html

Because the sponsor limits an institution to one application, UK has established an internal selection process and a deadline.  Researchers wanting to submit an Education and Research Center proposal to NIOSH are to send a pre-proposal electronically to the Office of the Vice President for Research at vpr@email.uky.eduv and a copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Thursday, July 22, 2010.  The application should include the following information:

1.     Names and departments of the Project Director and key personnel

2.     Brief description of the proposed Occupational Safety and Health ERC including training in core programs and outreach activities (2-3 pages)

The Vice President for Research will appoint a committee to review the material and make recommendations as to the University’s applicant.  The next NIH deadline is September 10, 2010.  Questions about the submission process may be sent to Ms. Annette Evans in the Office of the Vice President for Research (alevan4@email.uky.edu or 257-1663.)
