Funding-Limited Submission – NSF - Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP); May 31, 2012

AGEP is committed to the national goal of increasing the numbers of underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities (URMs) entering and completing graduate education and postdoctoral training in STEM disciplines.  The AGEP program will support the development, implementation, study, and dissemination of innovative models and standards of graduate education and postdoctoral training that are designed to improve the participation, preparation, and success of URMs.  AGEP includes the following projects:

·         AGEP-Transformation - Strategic alliances of institutions and organizations to develop, implement, and study innovative evidence-based models and standards for STEM graduate education, postdoctoral training, and academic STEM career preparation for URMs.

·         AGEP-Knowledge Adoption and Translation (AGEP-KAT) - Projects to expand the adoption (or adaptation) of research findings and evidence-based strategies and practices related to the participation and success of URMs in STEM graduate education, postdoctoral training, and academic STEM careers.

·         AGEP-Broadening Participation Research in STEM Education (AGEP-BPR) - Investigator initiated empirical research projects that seek to create and study new theory-driven models and innovations related to the participation and success of URMs in STEM graduate education, postdoctoral training, and academic STEM careers.

·         Broadening Participation in STEM- Resource Network (BPS-RN)- The NSF Division of Human Resource Development (HRD) is accepting design proposals to develop innovative models for assisting HRD grantees and other NSF stakeholders to prepare, engage, and motivate a diverse STEM workforce.

Limit on Number of Proposals per Organization:

·         AGEP-Transformation - An institution or organization may only serve as the lead on one (1) collaborative proposal.  Please note- An institution or organization may be a partner in multiple AGEP-Transformation projects.

NSF does not limit the number of applications for AGEP-KAT, AGEP-BPR, or BPS-RN projects; therefore these are excluded from the internal selection process described below.

Internal Competition:  Because NSF limits the number of AGEP-Transformation proposals to one lead proposal per institution, the University of Kentucky has established an internal selection process.  Prospective applicants are to submit the following information electronically to Kris Hobson (hobson@email.uky.edu), Office of the Provost, and a copy to their dean by Thursday, May 31, 2012:

(1)       Names and departments of PI, key personnel

(2)       Names of the alliance partner organizations and roles

(3)       Project description (1-2 pages) – include the project context (need for the project), and the project goals, objectives and activities

A committee will be appointed to review the material and make a recommendation as to the University’s applicant.

·         AGEP-KAT and AGEP-BPR – October 30, 2012
