Funding-Limited Submission - The Oak Ridge Associated Universities - Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards; November 10, 2015

Description: The Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a consortium of 115 research colleges and universities institutions, including the University of Kentucky that cultivates collaborative partnerships to enhance scientific research and education.  The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide $5,000 to full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (1/11/2014 through 1/11/2016) at the time of application.  These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.

Research projects must be in one of the following five areas:

• Engineering and Applied Science
• Life Sciences
• Mathematics/Computer Sciences
• Physical Sciences
• Policy, Management, or Education

Matching: The applicant’s institution is required to match the award with at least an additional $5,000. This is a one-year grant (June 1 to May 31).

Institutional Limit: (2) - Each ORAU member may submit up to two applications each year.

Internal Competition: To participate in the University’s selection process, researchers are to submit the following material electronically, assembled into a single PDF, to the Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu and to their Associate Dean for Research by Tuesday, November 10, 2015:

(1) Name and department of the PI;

(2) Title of the Program (ORAU Ralph Powe Award);

(3) A two page resume;

(4) An abstract or two-page description of the proposed research;

(5) A budget and justification for the $5,000 requested from ORAU; and

(6) The proposed source of matching funds. Note: Because of ongoing commitments, the Office of the Vice President for Research is unable to provide matching funds.

The Vice President for Research will appoint a committee to review this information and make recommendations as to the University’s submissions.  The individuals selected will be notified and the proposal will be submitted electronically to Oak Ridge by the Office of the Vice President for Research for the January 11, 2016 deadline.
