Funding-KY NSF EPSCOR - Regional Research Enhancement Grant
(R-REG); June 1, 2013
Synopsis
KY NSF EPSCoR is supporting a new R-REG program to develop the
research environment at academic institutions in Kentucky.
R-REG
Program Highlights:
- A
significant portion of the KY NSF EPSCoR budget
is dedicated to building the research infrastructure in the Commonwealth
with investments at the state’s two academic research institutions, the
University of Kentucky (UK) and the University of
Louisville (UofL). The R-REG program is intended
to further expand the EPSCoR program’s impact by
engaging other academic campuses and participants across the state.
Proposed R-REG activities should be led and submitted by a non-UK/non-UofL participant and institution. Examples of eligible
institutions include Kentucky’s public and private four year regional
colleges and universities; the KCTCS Community and Technical College
campuses; and Kentucky’s K-12 schools. UK and UofL
participants are not excluded from collaborating on R-REG proposals, but
the proposed activities should be led and submitted by participant(s) at a
regional Kentucky institution.
- R-REG
activities should support research and educational activities for Kentucky
participants in KY NSF EPSCoR’s priority areas, which include: materials
research; bioengineering; micro/nano technology;
genomics; and energy/environmental research. Proposals are highly
encouraged that create opportunities for diverse and underrepresented
participants. KY NSF EPSCoR strongly encourages
new collaborations among Kentucky institutions. The proposed activities
can focus on scientific research activities, but can also prioritize
educational programs, workforce development opportunities, industrial
collaborations, etc. Proposers should consider R-REG awards a
“seed-funding” opportunity that will prepare the awardee for a future
proposal submission directly to the National Science Foundation for
continued and/or expanded support. Some funding opportunities/programs
