Funding-Limited
Submission – PhRMA Foundation Pre Doctoral
Fellowships (Informatics and Pharmacology/Toxicology); July 8, 2014
Description
The
goal of the Informatics Program is to promote the use of informatics in an
integrative approach to the understanding of biological and disease processes.
Informatics awards are intended to support career development for scientists
engaged in cutting-edge research in information technology and experimental
validation, thus advancing the integration of molecular and clinical approaches
into problems of pharmacological concern. This program is designed for
candidates who expect to complete the requirements for the Ph.D. in field of
Informatics in two years or less from the time the fellowship begins. The award
provides up to two years of stipend funding to support the research activities
of the doctoral program and only after course work has been completed.
Institutional Limit: two applications per
academic institution.
Pharmacology/toxicology
awards support career-development activities of scientists prepared to engage
in research that integrates information on molecular or cellular mechanisms of
action with information on the effects of an agent observed in an intact
organism, either in experimental animal or clinical studies or both. This
program is designed for candidates who expect to complete the requirements for
the Ph.D. in fields of Pharmacology/Toxicology in two years or less from the
time the fellowship begins. The award provides up to two years of stipend
funding to support the research activities of the doctoral program and only
after course work has been completed.
Institutional Limit: one application
per academic institution.
Amount:
Informatics
and Pharmacology/Toxicology awards provide a stipend of $20,000 a year
payable quarterly for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years.
Internal
Competition:
Because the PhRMA Foundation limits the number of
proposals that an institution may submit to both of these programs, the
University of Kentucky has established an internal selection process.
Prospective applicants interested in responding to either program should send
the following information to the Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu and a
copy to their Associate Dean for Research by Tuesday, July 8, 2014:

and category of program (PhrMA Foundation Pre
Doctoral Fellowship Informatics or PhrMA Foundation
Pre Doctoral Fellowship Pharmacology/Toxicology)
·
Name and
affiliations of Predoctoral Student and Mentor(s)
A
committee will be convened to review applications and make recommendations as to
the university’s applicants. Questions about the submission process may be sent
to Ms. Annette Evans in the Office of the Vice President for Research (alevan4@email.uky.edu or 257-1663.)
