Agency

National Institute of Food and Agriculture

Description

The Supplemental and Alternative Crops Competitive Grants Program (SACC) supports the significant increase of canola crop acreage by the development and testing of superior germplasm, methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, processing, and transfer of such applied research from experimental sites to on farm practice as soon as practicable. FY 2010 funding will support projects that focus primarily on field production, including, but not limited to, genetic improvement. Biodiesel/bio-products, blackleg disease, health and nutrition, input cost reduction, pod shattering, and winter canola productions systems have been identified as high priority research areas for FY 2010. Priority will be given to applications that provide evidence of multi-state cooperation with a minimum of three state cooperators and to applications that utilize existing expertise and resources of the Agricultural Research Service, and the land-grant colleges and universities in this field of research.
