Description

Through this program, one-year grants will be awarded for research on Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Research priorities identified by GLA include:

·         Lyme disease — Priority will be given to proposals focused on Lyme disease, host immunology/immune dysregulation (with an emphasis on pathogenesis), post-treatment Lyme disease, direct diagnostics, and improved treatment. Molecular biology and bioinformatics-oriented proposals also will be considered. Proposals focused on improved treatment based on novel antimicrobials and drug combinations are encouraged.

·         Babesiosis — Priority will be given to proposals that address critical needs in diagnostics, treatment, pathogenesis, and strain differences. Proposals exploring the basis for the emergence of antibiotic resistance will be considered.

 

Eligible candidates include scientists and clinicians from accredited degree-granting academic or not-for-profit institutions. Applicants typically have MD and/or PhD degrees, although other certifications of higher learning will also be considered.
