SUBJECT:       New Policy Regarding Proposals

In a recent meeting of the UK Women & Philanthropy Leadership Council, the members reviewed some suggestions regarding the proposal process that has been in place for the past seven years.  Concern about larger colleges and programs submitting numerous proposals and receiving a much larger portion of the available funding each year has occurred.  In an effort to make the process more equitable and for our organization not to appear to be a funding source for only a few selected colleges or programs, the Women & Philanthropy Network has adopted a policy of restricting the number of proposals each college or university program may submit to two proposals.  This information was inadvertently left out of the Request For Proposals that was sent earlier this week and we apologize for any confusion it may have caused.

We have observed that the quality can vary greatly when six or eight proposals are submitted from a college, so we ask that each college select the two proposals that are most important and impactful for that unit and its students.  It is our hope that this new policy will foster greater competition across the university and a broader distribution of funds.  We have also posted some sample proposals on our website (http://www.uky.edu/womenandphilanthropy/proposals.html) in response to questions about format, proposal length and required details.  Please contact Paula Pope at the Office of Philanthropy, 257-3187 or ppope@uky.edu if you have questions or concerns regarding the new proposal policy or other aspects of this competition.
