FOA-Limited Submission – W.K. Kellogg Foundation – Racial Equity 2030; December 8, 2020

Purpose: The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has committed $90 million for a new initiative, Racial Equity 2030, in honor of the foundation’s 90th anniversary. The initiative seeks to fund bold solutions that will close the racial equity gap so all children, families and communities can be more confident, healthier, and secure in their trust of the systems and institutions that serve them. Specifically, the foundation is looking for ideas from teams of visionaries, change agents, and community leaders from every sector and organizations of all types, from anywhere in the world. Solutions may tackle the social, economic, political or institutional inequities we see today. Proposed ideas must embrace and reflect the values of racial equity and justice. They must be led by a team that centers on lived experience and includes communities closest to the issues as part of leadership in the project. Also, while organizations of all types and sizes are welcome to apply, all projects must have a charitable purpose in order to participate.

Grants will be offered in two stages. First, ten Finalists will receive a $1 million planning grant for nine months of capacity-building support to develop their project and strengthen their applications. Final awardees (3) will receive grants of $20 million, and another two (2) finalists will receive $10 million, paid out over nine years to coincide with the Foundation’s 100th anniversary.

Eligibility: Racial Equity 2030 is open to teams from anywhere in the world. Organizations may submit only one Entry. However, regional or location-specific branches of larger organizations, as well as departments, schools, and nonprofits within or based in a college/university, can each register and submit an entry separately as long as the proposed solutions are different and separate. There should be no overlap in team members. The intent of this policy is to ensure that any Applicant is concentrating its best effort into a single Entry.

UK will be using a “think-tank” approach to bring together scholars from throughout the university to work together on a coordinated application. Those interested in joining the think-tank initiative or other proposed solutions should utilize the “Join Collaboration List” tool on the limited submission portal for this opportunity.

Funding Amount/ Project Period: $1 million planning grant over 9 months for finalists, $20 million for 3 awardees and $10 million for 2 awardees over 9 years
