FUNDING-Limited Submission – DHHS Office of Minority Health – Empowered Communities for a Healthier Nation Initiative (MP-CPI-17-004); August 1, 2017

Purpose: The Empowered Communities Initiative (ECI) is intended to provide support for minority and/or disadvantaged communities disproportionately impacted by 1) the opioid epidemic, 2) childhood/ adolescent obesity, or 3) serious mental illness. It seeks to:

• prevent opioid abuse, increase access to opioid treatment and recovery services, and reduce the health consequences of opioid abuse;
• reduce obesity prevalence and disparities in weight status among children and adolescents; and
• reduce the impact of serious mental illness and improve screening for serious mental illness at the primary care level.

Each application must include a collaborative partnership comprised of diverse stakeholder entities.

Focus areas: opioid abuse; childhood/adolescent obesity; serious mental illness

Funding Amount: $300,000-350,000/year for three-year project period.

Internal Competition: To participate in the university’s selection process, please submit the following, assembled into a single PDF file, to the Office of the Vice President for Research at limitedsubmissions@uky.edu with a copy to your Associate Dean for Research by June 27, 2017:

• Names and departments or affiliations of the Project Director and other key personnel or partners;
• Title of program and/or funding opportunity announcement number
• Focus area of interest;
• Brief project description (2 pages maximum)
