Description
The
U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - Department of
Commerce through
the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has released “FY 2019 Marine
Fisheries Initiative (MARFIN)”,
NOAA-NMFS-SE-2019-2005794. Proposals are sought for research
and development projects that optimize the use of fisheries in the Gulf of
Mexico, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and off the South Atlantic states
of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, involving the U.S.
fishing industry (recreational and commercial), including fishery biology,
resources assessment, socio-economic assessment, management and conservation,
selected harvesting methods, and fish handling and processing.
Projects
should focus on the greatest probability of recovering, maintaining, improving,
or developing fisheries; collecting data directly applicable for improving stock
assessments, collecting and improving data on bycatch estimates and protected
species fishery interactions, and/or generating increased social and economic
values and opportunities for the commercial, recreational, and subsistence
sectors of fisheries. Priority areas are:
