Description
The
U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - Department of
Commerce through the National Ocean Service (NOS) has released the
“National Competitive Harmful Algal Bloom Programs”,
NOAA-NOS-NCCOS-2019-2005810. NOS is soliciting proposals for the
Monitoring and Event Response for Harmful Algal Blooms (MERHAB) and The Ecology
and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms (ECOHAB) Research Programs. HABs
are caused by diverse organisms, including toxic and noxious phytoplankton,
some protists, cyanobacteria, benthic algae, and
macroalgae. Blooms can extend over large geographic
areas, be composed of more than one harmful or toxic species, and cause
significant impacts on fisheries, recreation, human health, and the ecology of
both marine and freshwater bodies.
