FOA-Limited Submission – ORAU – Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards; January 6, 2021

 

Purpose: Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a consortium of colleges and universities, including the University of Kentucky, that cultivates collaborative partnerships to enhance scientific research and education. ORAU’s commitment to enriching the research skills and professional growth of young faculty members at ORAU member institutions is embodied in the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards Program. These competitive research awards provide seed money for junior faculty members that often result in additional funding from other sources. Proposals cover research goals and objectives, relevant background, expected research outcomes and relevance, research design and methodology, and expertise and resources. Research projects, which are funded from June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022 must be in one of the following five areas:

·        Engineering and Applied Science

·        Life Sciences

·        Mathematics/Computer Sciences

·        Physical Sciences

·        Policy, Management, or Education

 

Eligibility: Full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (Jan. 1, 2019 through Jan. 3, 2021) at the time of application are eligible.

 

Funding Amount/Project Period:  $5,000 for one year

 

Cost Share/Matching Funds: 100% match is required – faculty startup funds may not be used as a source of cost share.

Internal Competition: To participate in the university’s selection process,please upload the following,assembled into a single PDF file, to the Office of the Vice President for Research via this portal with a copy to your Associate Dean for Research by  December 1, 2020:

 

·        Names and departments or affiliations of the Project Director and other key personnel or partners;

·        Title of program and/or funding opportunity announcement number;

·        Brief project description (2 pages maximum);

·        Amount of total budget request;

·        Letter from the college/department documenting commitment of the matching funds;

·        Brief biographical sketch

 

A committee will be convened to review the material and make a recommendation.
