The first workshop of the Environmental Health Matters Initiative (EHMI) will discuss human exposure to PFAS as well as innovative approaches to controlling and preventing exposure.

Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are man-made chemical compounds used in fire-fighting foam, cleaning products, carpet coating treatments, non-stick cookware coating, and many other consumer products. PFAS chemicals do not degrade by natural metabolic processes. Their high mobility and persistence allow them to move easily through water and air, contaminating crop soil and drinking water aquifers.

Workshop participants will explore forward-thinking actions that need to be taken by various sectors to treat and prevent the spread of this dangerous chemical.
