FUNDING-PhRMA Foundation – Research Starter Grants in Informatics, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology/Toxicology; September 1, 2018

Agency

PhRMA Foundation

Description:

Informatics - The goal of the Informatics Research Starter Grants program is to promote development and use of novel informatics in an integrative approach toward understanding normal processes of human biology and disease processes. Informatics awards support career development of scientists engaged in research that significantly integrates state-of-the-art information technology developed with advanced biological, chemical, and pharmacological sciences.

Pharmaceutics - This award offers financial support to individuals beginning independent research careers in pharmaceutics (including basic pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutical technology, and pharmaceutical biotechnology) at the faculty level.

Pharmacology/Toxicology - These awards intend to encourage multidisciplinary training to apply the perspective of molecular, cell, and systems biology to pharmacology and toxicology research. Their scope includes basic drug action studies, detection of cellular responses to drugs at the gene level that create opportunities to optimize individualized drug therapy, and the corresponding evaluation of pharmaceuticals in human and clinical populations.

Eligibility:  Applicants will be judged on the scientific merit of the proposed research and degree of financial need. Those holding academic rank of assistant professor (or research assistant professor) within a tenure track (or research track) appointment, i.e., not instructor, are eligible to apply for a Research Starter Grant, providing their proposed research is neither directly nor indirectly subsidized to any significant degree by an extramural support mechanism. This program is not intended for those in postdoctoral training. However, individuals in postdoctoral training programs scheduled to conclude by January 1, 2018, who will hold an academic appointment by that time may apply. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
