FUNDING-Limited Submission – NIH – Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) (RFA-ES-18-001); February 27, 2018

 

 

Purpose: The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences invites applications for the Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01). This program is intended to identify the most talented Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in the environmental health sciences and assist them in launching an innovative research program focused on the understanding of environmental exposure effects on people’s health. ESIs are New Investigators who are within 10 years of competing their terminal research degree or their medical residency at the time they apply for this R01. Proposed research projects will have a defined impact on the environmental health sciences and be responsive to both the mission of the NIH and, specifically, to the mission of the NIEHS and the NIEHS 2012-2017 Strategic plan, Advancing Science, Improving Health: A Plan for Environmental Health Sciences Research. A variety of scientific disciplines, including basic, mechanistic, clinical, epidemiological, computational, engineering, and/or health risk communication approaches, can be used to advance the NIEHS Strategic Plan.

 

Funding Amount/ Project Period: For most applications, $475,000 total per year for five years, with up to $250,000 per year for direct costs and up to $250,000 per year for equipment, resource development, and career enhancement experiences

Institutional Limit:  1 per school or college within a university each funding cycle 

 

Internal Competition: Any Early Stage Investigator with a faculty appointment interested in applying should contact his/her Associate Dean for Research for details on the college’s internal selection procedure and deadline.
