Optional) – RFA-ES-21-001; February 26, 2021
Purpose: The
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences invites applications for the
Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01). This program is intended to identify the most talented Early Stage
Investigators (ESIs) who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in
the Environmental Health Sciences and assist them in launching an innovative
research program focused on understanding the effects of environmental exposure
on people’s health. ESIs are
New
Investigators
who are within 10 years of competing their terminal research degree or their
medical residency at the time they apply for this R01.
Proposed research projects will have a defined
impact on the environmental health sciences and be responsive to both the
mission of the NIH and, specifically, to the mission of the NIEHS and
the 2018-2023
Strategic Plan: Advancing Science, Improving Health: A Plan for Environmental
Health Sciences Research. A variety of scientific
disciplines, including basic, mechanistic, clinical, epidemiological,
computational, engineering, and/or health risk communication approaches, can be
used to advance the NIEHS Strategic Plan. Applications submitted in response to
this FOA must have a research focus on exposure-health related responses from
environmental agents within the mission interest of the NIEHS. Examples
of environmental agents which are considered of primary interest for NIEHS
include but are not limited to: industrial chemicals or manufacturing
byproducts, metals, pesticides, herbicides, air pollutants and other inhaled
