Submission – NIH Director's Early Independence Award (DP5 - Clinical Trial

Purpose:
The NIH Director's Early Independence Award supports exceptional junior
scientists who wish to pursue independent research essentially directly after
completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or end of post-graduate
clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training
period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career.
Applications are welcome from individuals of diverse backgrounds and
perspectives and in any topic of relevance to the broad mission of NIH. The NIH
Director's Early Independence Award is a component of the High-Risk, High-Reward
Research program of the NIH Common Fund. Successful applicants will have already
established a record of scientific innovation and research productivity and
demonstrated unusual scientific vision and maturity. Eligibility:
Applicants must, at the time of application, have received the most recent
doctoral degree or completed clinical training within the previous 15 months or
expect to do so within the following 12 months and not previously have
established research independence. Note: This award requires commitment
of at least 9.6 person-months each year during the first two years of the
project period.
Funding
Amount: $250,000 direct costs per year for 5
years
