Purpose: The U.S. Department
of Agriculture invites applications for the Rural Placemaking Challenge (RPIC) Program from organizations to
provide planning and implementation technical assistance to rural communities to
foster placemaking, the process of creating quality
places where people want to live, work, and play. Ultimately, the goal is to
create greater social and cultural vitality in rural communities aimed at
improving people's social, physical, and economic well-being. Applicants are
encouraged to consider projects that provide measurable results in helping rural
communities build robust and sustainable economies through strategic investments
in infrastructure, partnerships and innovation. Key strategies include:

Developing the Rural Economy
•
Harnessing Technological Innovation
•
Supporting a Rural Workforce
•
Improving Quality of Life
Applicants
for RPIC, should be prepared to develop, in the process of developing, or have
developed a placemaking plan in partnerships with
public and private partners with the focus of local or regional revitalization
towards economic vitality and quality of life impacts. Projects must include
multijurisdictional or multisectoral planning
partnerships. Applications that contain a component of creating livable
communities as a development process and include innovative and adaptive
processes and solutions along with established technical ones are ideal.
Note: Awards will be made as cooperative
agreements.
Cost
Sharing/Match:
Applicants must
recruit one or more private, philanthropic and/or public partner(s) to match
minimum 15% cost share.
