(FOA)-Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) for FY19 Kentucky (USDA-NRCS-KY-CIG-GEN0010198); June 14, 2019

Agency

US Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC)

Description

The purpose of CIG is to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies in conjunction with agricultural production. CIG projects are expected to lead to the transfer of conservation technologies, management systems, and innovative approaches (such as market-based systems) to agricultural producers, into NRCS technical manuals and guides, or to the private sector. CIG generally funds pilot projects, field demonstrations, and on-farm conservation research. On-farm conservation research is defined as an investigation conducted to answer a specific applied conservation question using a statistically valid design while employing farm-scale equipment on farms, ranches or private forest lands.  CIG recipients must provide a non-Federal funding match or cost-share at least equal to the amount of Federal funding requested.

KY CIG Priorities for FY 2019:

Cover Crops:

·         NRCS seeks projects that improve technology for planting into standing crops-both methodology and timing

·         NRCS seeks projects that measure crop impacts when cover crops are used-identification and mitigation of voles and other pests.

Sugar Producing Tree Species:

·         NRCS seeks projects that create forestry BMP’s for sugar producing tree species (new crop for KY).

·         Energy conservation-dehydration of sap from sugar producing trees.
